5. Who plays quarterback?

With the recent news that Nick Foles had missed his third consecutive practice with upper body soreness, the question of who will play quarterback on Thursday is at the top of most fan lists. Carson Wentz is not yet participating in contact drills, so he will not dress for the game.

The Eagles certainly want to make sure they do everything right with their franchise quarterback, and rushing Wentz back before he’s fully ready would just be foolish.

Foles was most likely the top candidate to start the game on Thursday, but now it appears that he will be on the sidelines along with Wentz. There’s little reason to think that Foles is dealing with anything serious, but it still leaves the Eagles with few options at quarterback for their first preseason game.

What this most likely means is that Eagles fans will get a heavy dose of Nate Sudfeld and Joe Callahan. And while that doesn’t sound like the most appealing situation, it should provide fans with a good look at the battle for third string.

Sudfeld didn’t look out of place in limited action last season, but it’s hard to know what to expect from Callahan, whom the Eagles picked up (via Rueben Frank, NBC Sports) after being released from the Green Bay Packers. Callahan actually had a very successful career playing at Division III Wesley College in Delaware, so perhaps he can give Sudfeld a run for his money.

Either way, fans will get a good look at both of these quarterbacks as logic would reason that both will get the chance to play a half.
