The rumors surrounding Bryce Harper possibly joining the Philadelphia Phillies in the offseason hit a whole new level thanks to Jayson Werth.

This past weekend was filled with plenty of celebrations for the Philadelphia Phillies, as the organization celebrated the 2008 World Series team on Sunday, which was topped off with a 5-3 win over the Miami Marlins.

Believe it or not, the victory marked the fifth win in a row for the Phillies, and while this may have seemed like the most exciting part of the day, this doesn’t compare to the comments made by Jayson Werth about Bryce Harper possibly joining the team in the offseason.

First off, it was amazing to see Philadelphia fans reward Werth with the round of applause he clearly deserved on Sunday, even if things seemed rocky at times since he joined the Washington Nationals back in 2011. No matter what, Werth will always be a special part of the organization for everything he did during his time with the Phillies, and now that he’s retired, its great to see fans feel better about cheering for him once again.

As for the Harper thing, well let’s just say Philadelphia fans couldn’t help but smile when Werth dropped the hint that his former teammate may have already asked him about what it would be like to play for the team.

Sure, this may not seem like that big of a deal since it was most likely just hypothetical, but just hearing Werth mention how Harper brought up the question to him shows this scenario isn’t all that crazy.

While the Nationals will do everything in their power to keep Harper around, it’s no secret the outfielder’s next contract has the potential to be historical, meaning it’s going to be quite costly for whatever team he ends up playing for.

Luckily for the Phillies, the team has been expected to be one of the biggest spenders in free agency during the 2019 offseason since they will have plenty of money to spend. And when seeing how Philadelphia has turned into one of the biggest surprise contenders so far this season, the addition of a power hitter like Harper will only make them stronger as a team.

Then again, the Phillies have to get through the rest of the season before jumping too far ahead over the possibility of landing Harper after these comments by Werth. Still, after all of the amazing events from this past weekend, these comments by Werth in regards to Harper were just what Philadelphia fans wanted to hear.
