Philadelphia Eagles: Brian Dawkins continues to inspire during Hall of Fame induction
By Dan Parzych
Philadelphia Eagles fans have been celebrating Brian Dawkins joining the Pro Football Hall of Fame all weekend.
2018 has been a magical year for the Philadelphia Eagles when seeing how the team won their first Super Bowl in franchise history along with seeing two of their former players in Brian Dawkins and Terrell Owens earn a spot in Canton for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
While Owens has been a battle over the years when it comes to receiving the necessary recognition, everyone knew it was only a matter of time before Dawkins was inducted when looking at the impact he made over the years as one of the league’s top safeties.
From his hard-hitting ability to insane entrance during introductions in front of Eagles fans in which he would be pouncing in a way that no human should, Dawkins was always considered an easy fan favorite among the base. And even though it was disappointing to see him fail to earn a ring during his playing days when looking at all of the opportunities Philadelphia with five NFC Championship appearances in eight years at one point, at least Dawkins was able to earn a Super Bowl win this past season.
Even if the ring had to come from taking on an administrative role, this is just one of many reasons why Dawkins has been so special to the organization and their fans over the years. And as enjoyable as these past couple of days have been for all-time great safety, the fans have been enjoying it jus as much as Dawkins.
From the moment he got up to the microphone for his speech and gave his famous shouting of “Hallelujah!” to the crowd, fans in attendance knew they were going to be in for a treat.
While there have been plenty of reasons behind why fans love Dawkins as a player, they have always loved him as an individual as well, especially when it comes to his passion for the game and life.
Hearing all of the obstacles Dawkins had to overcome both on and off the football field throughout his career wasn’t always easy to talk about, and seeing him recently come out to discuss other battles such as depression in his life was truly inspiring.
As Eagles fans know, Dawkins has always been the kind of individual that is willing to do whatever it takes to help out others, even if it’s football related, and there’s no question the speech that he gave on Saturday had an impact on plenty of people across the country experiencing similar battles.
The City of Brotherly Love will always cherish Dawkins for the man he is, and these last couple of days have been another perfect way to top off what was an incredible career in the NFL. Not to mention, it was great to see Dawkins perform that insane entrance crawl once again to fire up the Philadelphia fans in attendance, just like his glory days during home games.
