Turns out, the Philadelphia Phillies had a deal in place for Adam Jones before the outfield used his no-trade rights.

Leading up to Tuesday’s trade deadline, there had been plenty of rumors surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies improving their roster to give them a better chance of competing for a playoff spot during the final two months.

From Manny Machado to Bryce Harper, the Phillies were linked to numerous key players, and even though they failed to land one of the two superstars just mentioned, the team hopes acquiring Wilson Ramos will payoff come September when he’s healthy again.

Never in a million years did any baseball fan believe at the beginning of the season that Philadelphia would be in this current position on top of the NL East heading into August, but here they are looking like a legitimate contender.

Only time will tell when it comes to whether the Phillies have what it takes to remain one of the top contenders in the National League, but it’s tough not to wonder how much better this team could have been had they acquired Adam Jones from the Baltimore Orioles before the deadline.

While reports surfaced that Jones turned down a trade to Philadelphia after the two teams had a deal in place, the Baltimore Sun was able to provide more of an explanation as to what happened with the whole situation.

Based off what Jones had to say, the outfielder made it seem like he was quite upset over the fact that he was even considered in a trade, and was happy to remain in Baltimore.

Still, Phillies fans can’t help but wonder what could have been when looking at some of the numbers Jones has put up over the years with the Orioles, and it was only two years ago in which he set a career high by hitting 39 home runs.

As bad as it sounds, Jones missed out by declining a trade since coming to Philadelphia would mean he would have been part of a playoff contender instead of remaining on a team that only had 32 wins on the season before Wednesday.
