With the MLB trade deadline set for Tuesday, it looks like the Philadelphia Phillies are one of a few teams interested in Andrew McCutchen.

Since the team is actually a legitimate playoff contender at the moment, the Philadelphia Phillies have been one of numerous teams that have been trying to load up before Tuesday’s trade deadline, although it would have been great to land Manny Machado.

Instead of going through a year of rebuilding while adjusting to Gabe Kapler as the new manager, the Phillies have been one of the best surprises from the 2018 season, as they currently sit on top of the NL East at the moment.

There’s still plenty of baseball remaining before October, but just the fact that Philadelphia is even part of the discussion is truly amazing when looking at how awful this team has been for the most part over the last couple of seasons.

However, many have made the case that this Phillies team isn’t built strong enough for a deep run, which is one of the main reasons why they’ve been exploring all options before the trade deadline to give them a better chance of earning one of the playoff spots in the National League.

In fact, one name to keep an eye on heading into Tuesday is Andrew McCutchen of the San Francisco Giants, as the outfielder could end up being dealt by late afternoon, according to a recent report by John Morosi.

As Morosi points out, the Giants seem to be exploring all options for players scheduled to be free agents in the offseason, and when looking at how McCutchen is expected to receive numerous offers from teams, this isn’t the worst decision in the world.

Plus, if San Francisco is able to get any potential prospects out of the deal to help build for their future, this works to their advantage even more since current contenders like the Phillies would love to add McCutchen for the final two-month stretch.

McCutchen’s numbers on the season (batting .253 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs) heading into Monday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers may not be his best compared to previous years, but the outfielder seems like he would fit in quite well in Philadelphia.

Keep in mind that McCutchen has always been the type of player that is a threat anytime he reaches base with his speed, and acquiring the outfielder would at least provide the Phillies with another potential playmaker to help them hang on to their slim NL East lead.

So depending on what San Francisco would be looking for prospect wise, McCutchen is a name to keep an eye on in regards to Philadelphia for the trade deadline.
