The Philadelphia Phillies hit seven home runs during Thursday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, showing the bats are truly heating up.

Heading into the All-Star break, the Philadelphia Phillies were considered one of the biggest surprises from the first half of the 2018 season since nobody expected them to be sitting in first place in the NL East.

If anything, the division seemed like it would be an easy lock for the Washington Nationals or Atlanta Braves when looking at how well the two teams were playing early on, but all of a sudden it’s the Phillies that have been making a major statement.

At the moment, Philadelphia currently has a comfortable 2.5 game lead over Atlanta in the division, and while there’s still plenty of baseball left before playoffs begin in October, Gabe Kapler‘s team has to love their chances of earning a spot, even if it’s through a Wild Card.

Plus, after seeing how well the Phillies looked with their bats against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, this shows just how dangerous of a squad they can be.

Sadly, offense hasn’t been the most consistent factor for Philadelphia at times during the 2018 season, but also there have been times in which the bats just seem to heat up out of nowhere, as Thursday’s game was the perfect example.

Anytime a player has a multi-homer game in the big leagues, it’s incredible. But when seeing how the Phillies had not one, but three players (Rhys Hoskins, Maikel Franco, and Nick Williams) go yard against the Reds on Thursday, seeing this kind of performance by a team is almost unheard of.

Seeing Philadelphia finish with seven home runs (Carlos Santana hit one as well) during their 9-4 win over Cincinnati is just another example of the type of talent this team has to continue making a push for a playoff spot in the National League.

These kinds of performances aren’t going to happen every night, but as long as the Phillies are producing runs and winning games, that’s all that really matters the most.

With three wins in a row, here’s to hoping that Philadelphia continues to play at a high level throughout the weekend in Cincinnati to continue building that lead in the NL East. If the bats remain hot from key players like Hoskins and Franco, this shouldn’t be a problem for the Phillies.
