Philadelphia Phillies: Odubel Herrera increases home run streak to five games
By Dan Parzych
Not only did the Philadelphia Phillies crush the Washington Nationals on Friday, but Odubel Herrera hit a home run for the fifth game in a row.
After ending their series against the St. Louis Cardinals on a hot note with a 4-3 win on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Phillies were hoping to see similar results this weekend against the Washington Nationals.
Not only did the Phillies’ offense come through in a big way on Friday by scoring 12 runs against the Nationals, but Odubel Herrera pulled off the unthinkable by hitting another home run in the third inning.
WIth the long shot, Herrera has now hit a home run in each of his last five games, and finished the game with four hits overall on five attempts while recording two RBIs along with four runs scored.

Clearly, Herrera has elevated his play to another level over the last week or so, and even though it’s going to be difficult for him to continue this impressive streak of home runs, at least Phillies fans can enjoy the ride.
For a player with a career high of 15 home runs, all signs point to Herrera crushing that mark since he already has 13 on the season, and there’s still a whole week left in June.
As mentioned before, Herrera continuing to hit home runs at this pace will be easier said than done, but as long as Philadelphia is ending up winning games, that’s all that really matters the most.
To say the offense has been one of the most difficult things to figure out this season with their inconsistency would be a huge understatement for the Phillies, although Friday’s 12-run performance was quite impressive.
When seeing how tight the NL East race is turning out to be, Philadelphia will take every win they can get against Washington since the division could come down to defeating them or the Atlanta Braves for the title.

With two more games this weekend against the Nationals, here’s to hoping the Phillies continue to pile up the runs on Saturday and Sunday. And if Herrera happens to keep his surprise home run streak going, this would be even better for Philadelphia, especially if they play a key factor in the team winning games against their division rivals.
