With the No. 17 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks selected Villanova Wildcats star guard Donte DiVincenzo.

Despite Jay Wright wishing Donte DiVincenzo would end up sticking around for another year, the Villanova Wildcats head coach knew entering the 2018 NBA Draft was the best decision the guard could have made.

After helping the Wildcats defeat the Michigan Wolverines in April for the team’s second NCAA title in three years, all eyes will be on DiVincenzo to see if he can make a similar impact in the NBA now that he’s a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.

By using the No. 17 pick to land the Final Four MVP, the Bucks have to love the potential surrounding DiVincenzo as a rookie when looking at the work ethic he brought to the table for Villanova during the tournament.

When the Wildcats found themselves struggling early on in the championship game against the Wolverines, it was DiVincenzo that provided the necessary spark off the bench to finally get the team rolling, and as a result, Villanova was able to take home the title.

In fact, that game consisted of DiVincenzo setting a career high by scoring 31 points, including 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Before the big tournament, DiVincenzo seemed to have a decent shot at being selected in the draft. But thanks to his impressive play when it mattered the most along with coming up big during the draft combine, DiVincenzo watched his draft stock skyrocket over the last few months, and as a result, it landed him on a great team in the Bucks.

Milwaukee may have lost a tough series in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics, but when seeing the talent on this team with players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, DiVincenzo will hopefully make this team even better.

Similar to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Bucks have been one of those teams over the last couple of seasons that seems capable of being a serious contender in the Eastern Conference for years to come with all of the young talent.

Only time will tell when it comes to whether DiVincenzo turns out to be the guard Milwaukee was looking for, but if the end of his Villanova career is any indication, there are plenty of reasons to love this selection.
