Philadelphia Eagles: No need to overreact over Nick Foles denying trade report
By Dan Parzych
There’s no reason to make a big deal over Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles denying recent reports about him turning down a chance to go to the Cleveland Browns.
Over the last couple of days, one of the hottest topics surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles has been the recent story surrounding Nick Foles, and how the Super Bowl MVP turned down a chance to go to the Cleveland Browns in a trade.
However, when Foles was asked about the previously discussed trade with the Browns this week, it looks like the Eagles quarterback had a different side of the story, leaving some fans confused about the earlier reports.
As Zach Berman from Philly.com discussed on Tuesday, Foles claims he first heard the news about the trade when the text messages started to roll in asking him about it, which is why it’s easy to understand why he would be caught off guard.

From Berman’s article:
"“The first time I’ve heard about it was when I got text messages asking if it was true, and that was the first time I had heard about it, so it never got to a discussion with me,” Foles said. “And at the end of it, I’m just a player. I don’t decide anything, if it was true or not.”"
Even if the Browns deserve some credit for improving in a few areas during the offseason, the team still seems a few years away from being contenders.
At the end of the day, there’s no reason for Eagles fans to make that big of a deal over this news coming as a surprise to Foles since the important factor is he’s still part of the picture.
When looking at all of the uncertainty surrounding Carson Wentz, sending Foles to Cleveland would have been risky if he would be needed for that first matchup against the Atlanta Falcons in September.
No matter what happens over the next couple of months when it comes to which player will be the starting quarterback under center, the Eagles know they are forever in debt to Foles for last season, and will do whatever it takes to make sure he’s happy.
The potential Cleveland trade may have been a big story last week, but at least Foles and Philadelphia fans can now move on from the matter without making a big deal over it.

Instead, everybody should be focused on the Eagles continuing to do whatever it takes to put them in the best shape to repeat as Super Bowl champions, which is a new feeling for them. After decades of disappointment and heartbreak, Philadelphia finally knows what it feels like to be defending champions, and there’s no chance this ever would have happened if it wasn’t for Foles.
