During a recent interview, J.J. Redick expressed how the Philadelphia 76ers should go after LeBron James in free agency if given the opportunity.

Even thought the Philadelphia 76ers recently saw their season come to an end after a heartbreaking loss in the playoffs to the Boston Celtics, the good news is this team has plenty to look forward to over the next few months.

All of a sudden thanks to their surprise success from this past season, the Sixers are all of a sudden a popular landing spots for potential free agents, including LeBron James.

At the moment, there’s no guarantee that James will end up being available to sign with another team this summer since he has the player option for the 2018-19 season. But when looking at how things have been going with the Cleveland Cavaliers and their inability to provide a reliable team around their beloved superstar, James has plenty of reasons to be frustrated at the moment.

Losing Kyrie Irving last summer was a crushing blow for the Cavaliers since he played a key role in the team earning three trips in a row to the NBA Finals, one of which included the team’s first championship in franchise history. To top off the frustration of losing Irving, Cleveland was forced to eventually trade Isaiah Thomas in the middle of the season since the guard just wasn’t the fight fit for Tyronn Lue‘s team.

Take this all into consideration with the fact that James and the Cavaliers have been receiving little production from players like J.R. Smith and Rodney Hood during their current series against the Boston Celtics, it’s easy to understand why James may end up exploring his options this summer.

As for whether the Sixers would be part of the mix when it comes to potential destinations, well let’s just say at least J.J. Redick would be on board, as he recently discussed with Bill Simmons during his recent podcast.

First off, Redick deserves credit for being unselfish about his opinion towards James since he very well knows that if this were to happen it could impact whether or not he returns to Philadelphia for another season.

With that being said, it’s clear that Redick realizes how much potential there would be on the Sixers if James were to team up with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, which is why he said what he said.

If Philadelphia was able to earn the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs this season, one can only imagine what the addition of James would do for the team next season. Leaving the Cavaliers for a second time in his career may seem like an absolute long shot, but also the argument can be made that Cleveland should have learned from their first stint with James the importance of building a reliable roster around him.

At least with the Sixers, James knows the supporting cast would be the complete opposite of what he’s currently working with in Cleveland, and Redick is spot on with his comments about how the team should consider the move if given the opportunity. And who knows, maybe at a cheaper price, Philadelphia could even convince Redick to return to the team as well, although the main focus should obviously be on James before making any other decision.
