Philadelphia Eagles: This has been a horrible week for the Cowboys receiving corps
After coming up short to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, the Dallas Cowboys’ receiving corps can’t seem to catch a break this offseason.
While the Philadelphia Eagles seemingly keep getting better, even after losing Timmy Jernigan for the foreseeable future following herniated disk surgery, their archrivals in the lone star stat can’t seem to catch a break.
What a shame.
After losing Brice Butler to the Arizona Cardinals at the start of free agency in March, Jason Witten to retirement, and possibly prematurely releasing Dez Bryant back in April, the Dallas Cowboys‘ have had a hard time trying to surround Dak Prescott with weapons as his team attempts to reload from a disappointing playoff-less 9-7 2017 campaign.

I mean sure, the team attempted to replace Butler, Bryant, and Witten in the draft with a trio of prestigious college playmakers in Michael Gallup, Dalton Schultz, and Mike White while also essentially swapped out second-year receiver Ryan Switzer for troubled, yet talented Tavon Austin, but going into 2018, the Cowboys may have the worst receiving core in the entire NFC East, even after adding Allen Hurns in free agency.
And over the last week, things have somehow gotten noticeably worse in Big D.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 19th, the Cowboys’ second-leading receiver from 2017, Terrance Williams, was arrested for public intoxication after crashing his Lamborgini into a light pole near his house in Frisco, Texas.
While his lawyer apparently contests the charges according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, this arrest very well could result in a four-game suspension and leave Dallas without their presumed top receiver against the likes of the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and Detroit Lions over the first month of the season.
Though this is arrest could obviously have serious ramifications for Williams off the football field, it’s far from the only piece of negative attention Dallas has received so far this month.
On May 12th, Dallas’ diminutive slot receiver Cole Beasley decided to publicly share one of his personal passions with Cowboys nation by release his rap opus The Autobiography to the world, and needless to say, it went about as well as anyone outside of the Lone Star State would have assumed.
I mean sure, the album currently sits at 13 on the iTunes top new albums chart, but when even funny rapper (and Philly native) Lil Dicky flames you on Twitter over being a Cowboy, that has to hurt.
Even former Cowboys’ receivers got in on the fun in disgracing their former organization, with Terrell Owens, who’s still fighting tooth and nail to remain relevant, publically questioned Jerry Jones‘ decision to keep Jason Garrett as his team head coach moving forward, calling the decision mind-boggling.
Though many people, players, and pundits have come to Garrett’s defense, as he’s currently the proud owner of a 68-55 career record as a head coach, and was a game away from making the playoffs in 2017, it was still just a little more negative press for the the fine people of Dallas.

While it’s only May, and we are still about four months away from the start of the 2018 NFL season, it’s pretty clear that the Cowboys are a team on the verge of falling into turmoil, and may soon collapse under the weight of some bad decisions, much to the delight of Philadelphia Eagles fans.
