Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz remains confident over being ready for Week 1
By Dan Parzych
During a recent interview, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz remained confident that he’ll be ready to go for Week 1.
With the 2018 NFL Draft officially in the books, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles over the next few months will be the status of Carson Wentz, as the quarterback continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered last December. Losing Wentz when they did in December was a crushing blow for a team in the Eagles battling for the No. 1 seed, but also watching this team never hit the panic button while eventually going on to win the Super Bowl with Nick Foles under center was truly amazing to witness.
While most teams would view this situation in Philadelphia as a nightmare when it comes to which player deserves to be quarterback, Doug Pederson knows this is Wentz’s team, and if he’s healthy enough to play, he’s going to be the one under center. Even if Wentz ended up missing the beginning of the season since an ACL is serious enough where the Eagles understand they need to be cautious, at least there would be every reason in the world to feel confident over Foles filling in for the mean time.
However, when looking at the competitive mindset that Wentz brings to the table, it’s safe to say the Philadelphia quarterback is going to do everything in his power to make sure his rehab continues to go well enough to be ready for that Week 1 meeting against the Atlanta Falcons. So when Wentz sat down with the folks from Good Morning Football, and expressed his confidence in being ready to go for opening night, nobody should be surprised at all.
As previously mentioned, this level of confidence by Wentz shouldn’t come as a surprise at all since he made it clear early on that he would put in whatever work was necessary to make sure he’ll be ready to go come September. Plus, as happy as Wentz was to celebrate winning the Super Bowl with the rest of his teammates last February, one can only imagine how much he desperately wanted to be the one out there under center instead of Foles.

Then again, if all goes according to plan for the Eagles when it comes to picking up where they left off as a serious Super Bowl contender in the NFC, maybe Wentz will be fortunate enough to earn himself the opportunity, although that’s jumping way too far ahead. Instead of looking at the potential scenario of Wentz playing in the Super Bowl, let’s hope his rehab continues to go well over the next few months to give his goal of playing Week 1 a better chance of happening.
