In the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected with another strong defender in Josh Sweat.

After only one selection over the first three rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles got off to a busy start during Day 3 of the big event with two selections in the first round. A few picks after filling a need at cornerback with the selection of Avonte Maddox, the Eagles decided to keep the trend going on defense with another explosive playmaker in Josh Sweat.

The Florida State star was originally projected to fall in the third or fourth round, meaning the selection at No. 130 seems to be a perfect fit when it comes to Sweat joining the Super Bowl champions. Heading into the draft, Philadelphia’s defensive line was already terrifying to think about heading into the 2018 season when seeing how much of a nightmare they’re expected to be for opponents, and if all goes well with Sweat in the mix, this unit may end up being even more terrifying.

Sweat’s history of injuries may seem like a concern, but assuming he can stay healthy now that he’s in the NFL, this selection seems to have all sorts of potential for Philadelphia. Whether it’s his amazing ability as a tackler to the explosiveness he possesses off the edge, Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has plenty of reasons to be thrilled about this new weapon to work with heading into the 2018 season, even if he was already loaded with talent before.

What Philadelphia has been able to do over the last couple of months to help make their defense even more dangerous than it already was during last year’s Super Bowl run has truly been amazing, and hopefully Sweat can live up to the hype. As mentioned before, the injuries will view this selection as risky, but since he was taken in the middle round, the Eagles deserve a B- grade for this pick since the potential is there. Plus, when looking at some of the current members to the defensive line that will now be teammates of Sweat, the rookie has an opportunity to learn from some of the best in the league, which is awesome for all parties.
