After keeping us waiting all night, the Philadelphia Eagles ultimately traded out of the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Well Philadelphia Eagles fans, that was anticlimactic.

While virtually every pundit across the nation has at least floated the idea of the Eagles trading back out of the first round to acquire more picks on Day 2, as the team wasn’t scheduled to pick again until the end of the fourth round pick, did anyone think they would wait until the 11:30 pm to actually make the deal?

In retrospect, we probably should have.

Sure, it’s a bummer that the team left promising players like Derrius Guice, Christian Kirk, and Will Hernandez on the table, as they all could have come in and made an immediate impact with the team from day one, but this was a mature decision by Howie Roseman and company for a team with very few glaring holes.

With the team basically straddling the salary cap line for the better part of the last year, the Eagles needed to add a number of young, relatively cheap players to more evenly disperse the money across their roster and with this move, they did just that.

But what did the Eagles get in exchange for the 32nd overall pick?

According to Eagles ESPN beat writer Tim McManus, the Eagles will receive the 52nd overall selection, the 125th overall pick and the Baltimore Raven‘s 2019 second round pick in exchange for the 32nd overall pick and the 132 overall pick.

While some will surely gawk at this trade’s haul, as many believed that a second and third round pick would be the fair asking price of the 32nd overall pick, and it’s included fifth-year option, but this is a vintage Roseman move, and will not only help the team now but also in next season’s draft.

With their attention now placed on the second round, the Philadelphia Eagles will have a whole new collection of players to pick from for their first selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and continue to build their team for the future.
