Philadelphia Eagles: Five under the radar available free agents
The last time Jeremy Maclin donned midnight green, he amassed 85 catches, 1318 yards, and 10 touchdowns, and then Maclin went on to earn some green of his own. After making $29 million over the last three seasons in Kansas City and Baltimore, Maclin was released on March 14th leaving him as one of the best veteran free agent receivers still available on the market. After a down year in Baltimore, Maclin will probably be looking for another short-term deal in the $3-5 million dollar range and could be the perfect veteran addition the Eagles need in the receiver core. Maclin will undoubtedly be looking for a team he thinks he can win with as his prime years have probably passed him by and why not do so on his former team, with his former offensive coordinator?
How he fits with the Philadelphia Eagles
After trading Torrey Smith and Marcus Johnson this offseason, the Eagles wide receiver core has been left pretty slim. Sure, Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor are solid options but behind them, the Eagles are left with just young players with a combined 23 catches last year between six players. Maclin could be easily inserted into the Eagles offense, an offense in which he should be familiar with during his time in Kansas City with Doug Pederson and could give the Eagles another safe option for Wentz in the passing game. A big question mark will be if the Eagles decide to re-sign Agholor next offseason as he will be due a big pay-day after the likes of Albert Wilson (who?) and Ryan Grant (who? Before he failed his physical) both just got paid around $8 million per year. A two-year, $9 million deal could be a perfect fit for the Eagles this year as well as next year as some sort of Agholor insurance. Also, wouldn’t it be nice for Maclin to win a ring with his first team?
