Philadelphia Eagles: Trey Burton will be missed on offense
By Dan Parzych
According to a recent report, Trey Burton is expected to leave the Philadelphia Eagles for the Chicago Bears.
The NFL free agency period for 2018 has already been chaos, and when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Super Bowl champions have certainly been keeping themselves busy when looking at all of the big moves made over the last few weeks. But as exciting as it’s been to hear the news of guys like Michael Bennett and Haloti Ngata, the one player the Eagles are truly going to miss having around is Trey Burton.
Realistically, Philadelphia seemed to fully understand that it was only a matter of time before Burton ended up with a new team once the Super Bowl came to an end, and even though deals can’t become official until Wednesday afternoon, it looks like the tight end has found a new home with the Chicago Bears. With reports claiming that Chicago is going to be rewarding Burton with a hefty four-year, $32 million deal, this shows why Philadelphia seemed to have accept a long time ago that he would be on the move since from their perspective, keeping him around would be way too expensive when looking at other needs.
Over the years, it’s been difficult for Burton to be consistent with production since he was always playing behind Brent Celek and Zach Ertz for the most part, but when seeing how effective whenever called upon, the Bears have plenty of reasons to be excited about their new tight end. Burton may only have five career starts to his name, but Week 14 last season was the perfect example of what he’s capable of after filling in for the injured Ertz by catching five passes for 71 yards with two scores.

Chicago realized the importance of bringing additional weapons on board in order to help Mitch Trubisky elevate his game to a whole new level, and now he’s going to have a much larger role on offense, the sky will be the limit for Burton. As disappointing as it was for Eagles fans to see one of their beloved tight ends leave for the Bears, they’ll always appreciate what he did to help bring the team their first Super Bowl title, especially during the historic Philly Special play.
