Philadelphia Eagles only Post-Combine mock draft
With the Eagles currently over the salary cap, some players have played themselves out of the team’s price range. One of those players is likely defensive tackle Beau Allen, who is looking for a nice payday on the free agent market. Allen might not have the biggest effect on the Eagles success, but he fills an important role that needs to be figured out before the season.
Because of this, the Eagles should use a fourth-round pick on Georgia defensive tackle Trenton Thompson. At times this past season, Thompson was overshadowed by his bigger-named teammates, but he brought consistency along one of the nation’s best defensive lines. He may be a little raw, but Thompson plays with a motor that allows him to always be near the quarterback and an edge that would fit well with the other personalities along the Eagles defensive line.
With both Fletcher Cox and Timmy Jernigan locked in for the foreseeable future, Thompson will have to settle for a situational role, but the strong play could force the Eagles to make room for him. Thompson has the upside to be a three-down player, but an average season at Georgia didn’t help his draft stock, so once he gets drafted it’s up to him to show that upside.
