Philadelphia Eagles shouldn’t be concerned over losing Reich to Colts

Instead of being the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles once again in 2018, Frank Reich will be the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

After the Indianapolis Colts found themselves in search of a new head coach after Josh McDaniels pulled the last minute surprise by sticking, Frank Reich saw his name emerge as one of the new favorites for the job when looking at how successful he’s been over the last two years with the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately for the Super Bowl champions, it looks like the Eagles will have to find a replacement for their former offensive coordinator after Reich agreed to a five-year deal with the Colts on Sunday.

When it comes to the NFL, it’s quite common for a championship team to lose a few of their coordinators when head coaching jobs open up, but Philadelphia seemed to be in the clear for the most part after John DeFillippo took a job with the Minnesota Vikings. Instead, McDaniels going back on his word to join Indianapolis resulted in Doug Pederson losing another key member to his coaching staff, although it’s obviously not the end of the world for Philadelphia.

Keep in mind that Pederson was the play caller for the Eagles, and as great of a job as Reich did this season when it comes to developing Carson Wentz and Nick Foles, deep down everybody knows the offense will be just fine. If Philadelphia was able to overcome all of the injuries and adjustments to help bring home their first Super Bowl win in franchise history, Pederson will be able to do the same when it comes to finding a replacement for Reich.

If anything, Eagles fans knew Reich was going to become a popular head coaching candidate at some point, although it seemed like it wasn’t going to happen until at least next offseason. Either way, Philadelphia will always be grateful for the work Reich did over the last two years when looking at how long this city has been waiting for a Super Bowl. As for the Colts, the argument can be made the team made out better with Reich over McDaniels, and it will be interesting to see if the new head coach can help the squad put an end to their three-year playoff drought.
