The primary architect of the Philadelphia Eagles rebuilt roster, Howie Roseman has been named the PFWA 2017 Executive of the Year.

With the Oscars and Grammys right around the corner, the Philadelphia Eagles have received their first of hopefully many accolades for their accomplishments in 2017.

Howie Roseman, the team’s executive vice president of football operations and de facto general manager has been named Pro Football Writers of America’s 2017 Executive of the Year, an award that is well deserved.

And frankly, it’s incredible Roseman is even in this situation at all.

After a mediocre tenure as the team’s general manager from 2010-2014, Roseman was stricken of his title by then head coach Chip Kelly, in a power play that ultimately resulted in the coaches exodus from the City of Brotherly Love, and pro football in general one season later.

Though many assumed that the team would look for a “football guy” to take over their vacant general manager position, Owner Jeffrey Lurie sent minor shockwaves through the football world by instead reinstating Roseman to his former glory, while pairing him with a much-improved scouting department highlighted by VP of player personnel Joe Douglas.

And after a year away from the show, Roseman wanted to return with a bang.

Looking to make a splash and erase some of the perceived mistakes made by his predecessor, Roseman traded away Kelly acquisitions like Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso and metaphorically gave up the farm to draft Carson Wentz second overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.

And we all know how that turned out.

But after a lukewarm 7-9 season in 2016, Roseman once again lit the midnight oil and took to the phones to make some serious money movies for the Eagles future.

Whether it be signing starting caliber free agents like Alshon Jeffery, Nick Foles and Patrick Robinson, or trading for game changers like Timmy Jernigan, and Jay Ajayi, Roseman’s acquisitions have almost single handily turned the Eagles into a championship caliber team, and are only one game away from the returning to the Super Bowl for the first time in over a decade.

While the PWFA’s authority could be put into question after naming Sean McVay the Coach of the Year over our own Doug Pederson, it’s pretty incredible how far Roseman has come in only two seasons. Without Roseman, the Eagles may not be in the position they are in now, one game away from the Super Bowl and that alone is worth the title of Executive of the Year.
