It’s done. After years of pining for her affection, Philadelphia 76ers great Joel Embiid is finally over pop superstar Rihanna.

“She denied me back then, so go with her again? So, um, I have to pass that and move on to the next one. Trust the Process.”

These 27 words marked the end of an era in Philly sports that we will not soon forget.

It’s no secret that Philadelphia 76ers‘ center Joel Embiid has had a… complicated relationship with Rihanna since entering the league in 2015, but on January 18th, 2018 their relationship took an unexpected turn mere hours after the Cameroonian 7-footer was named an All-Star starter in only his second season in the league, a condition she initially placed on him asking her out on a date.

When presented with an opportunity to address the Barbadian songstress directly via TNT after defeating the Boston Celtics by a score of 89-80 Embiid decided that he was ready to move on, and reassured fans to Trust the Process.

While it’s unclear if Embiid was telling fans to trust him, The Process, or Trust the Process in general, one has to appreciate your boy’s moxie and unwaning confidence, something Embiid hasn’t exactly been lacking over the years.

And why wouldn’t Embiid be confident?

After missing his first two seasons in the NBA with a foot injury, and losing his younger brother to an incredibly unfortunate car accident back in his home country of Cameroon, Embiid has quickly established himself as one of the leagues best young centers, and in only 72 games has been named an All-Star game starter.

His 26 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists marked Embiid’s 20th double-double of the season and single-handedly swung the Celtics game in the 76ers favor. While some may argue that the 76ers, even without second-leading scorer J.J. Redick, should have easily defeated a Celtics squad without Kyrie Irving, the fact that the young team rallied behind their star and pulled off an improbable road win at the Boston Garden on national television should be commended.
