Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed on Monday that Carson Wentz will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.

As bas as it sounds, the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans seemed to fear the worst that Carson Wentz would miss the remainder of the season after leaving Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury. On Monday, Doug Pederson confirmed the news that Eagles fans were terrified of hearing in Wentz did in fact suffer a torn ACL, meaning the quarterback will miss the remainder of the season, and the team will roll with Nick Foles under center moving forward.

For a team that hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2013 in which, coincidentally, Foles was the quarterback, Wentz finally gave Philadelphia fans something to cheer about this year when seeing how much of an impact he made on offense. One of the main reasons why Wentz has seen his name as the likely favorite to take home MVP honors was due to the fact that he managed to toss 33 touchdown passes in 13 games, including a four-touchdown performance against the Rams on Sunday before he was forced to leave with an injury.

No matter how much this fan base wants to believe in Foles, it’s safe to assume that no matter how hard he tries, his level of production won’t come anywhere close to what Wentz brought to the table for the Eagles. But on a positive note, at least Philadelphia is still in great shape to make a run at home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with remaining games against the New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, and Dallas Cowboys.

If Foles can manage to play well enough on offense by taking advantage of all the weapons he has to work with along with the defense coming through on their end, the Eagles will absolutely still have a shot at making a run for the Super Bowl. With that being said, if Philadelphia does end up falling short of earning a trip to Minnesota when they seemed to be a heavy favorite prior to Sunday’s game against the Rams, it’s only going to make this whole situation with Wentz’s injury even more painful to deal with.
