3. Sixers missed out on Porzingis
Even though it was impossible to determine at the time he was going to turn out to be a much better selection than Okafor, the one thing that will always haunt the Sixers from the 2015 NBA Draft is how they missed out on a stud like Kristaps Porzingis. In just his third NBA season with the New York Knicks, the 22-year-old Porzingis has already drawn heavy praise for being one of the next great NBA players, especially when looking at the leap he’s already made compared to last season.
To see Porzingis go from averaging just over 18 points per game a year ago to over 25 points per game this season is the perfect example of how far along he’s come since the Knicks drafted him at No. 4 back in 2015. Sadly, Philadelphia was in a difficult position back then since Porzingis was considered a high risk to use the third overall pick on instead of the “best available player” at the time in Okafor, but obviously this was one of those decisions the team wishes they could go back on.
Even if things do end up working out for Okafor in Brooklyn, the chances aren’t high that he’s eventually going to make more of an impact than Porzingis. If anything, this is just the beginning of Porzingis in what should be a very promising NBA career, which is terrifying for opponents of the Knicks to think about.
