2. Contain Russell Wilson

As banged up as the Seahawks’ defense is along with their offensive line and running game possibly struggling, the one thing they have going for them is quarterback Russell Wilson, who has been a constant in Seattle since 2012, and has seen nothing but success throughout his career.

Wilson was seen as more of a game manager early in his career, as he had the support of a strong run game and defense. But, over the past few years, Wilson has become one of the league`s best quarterbacks and is nearing elite status.

Even if the Eagles can put up points, and shut down the running game, Wilson is still going to be a lot to handle. His ability to escape from the pocket, and make something out of nothing has been his calling card and is something he shredded the Eagles with in their previous matchups.

In the trenches, the Eagles have the advantage. Should they shut down the running game, they will force this game onto Wilson, like they have to so many other quarterbacks this season. Should that happen, the defensive line can put their attention on going after Wilson, something they will have to do smartly though.

Most quarterbacks you can rattle with pressure up the middle and get them to the ground, but not Wilson. Even if you can get pressure up the middle, Wilson has shown an incredible ability of rolling to the outside and making plays outside of the pocket.

The Eagles defensive ends (Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, Chris Long, and Derek Barnett) must not over pursue Wilson and contain the edges. They must do what they can to not allow Wilson to escape outside of the pocket.

I would not be surprised to see Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz not blitz as much and play to keep Wilson in the pocket. Forcing Wilson to throw from the pocket and let the Eagles corners cover should be the game plan here.

If the Eagles can contain the Seahawks quarterback and force him to beat them throwing from the pocket, then Philadelphia will have a good chance at defensive success and avoid any big plays from Wilson using his legs.
