Wednesday was a career night for Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers that resulted in a win against the Los Angeles Lakers.

With all of the nonsense surrounding Lonzo Ball‘s dad running his mouth dating back to the summer (if not longer), the Philadelphia 76ers have been excited to face the Los Angeles Lakers for the first time in 2017-18 to put the rookie in his place, especially Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The Sixers duo hasn’t been shy over the months when it comes to their opinions on Ball’s father, and while Simmons nearly recorded another triple-double during the win against the Lakers, it was Embiid that made the most impact.

In fact, Embiid managed to earn a place in NBA history with an unbelievable statline by scoring 46 points (14 of 20 shooting) to go along with 15 rebounds, seven assists, and seven blocks. Yes, those numbers are insane for a player that entered the regular season on a minutes restriction (played 34 minutes against the Lakers), and Embiid’s epic performance was certainly one for the record books.

Sixers fans have been obsessed with the potential surrounding Embiid dating back to last season when looking at how much of a dominant force he can be against opponents due to his size and strength, but nobody saw this kind of game against the Lakers coming. Just the thought of what Embiid would be capable of if he didn’t have so many injury issues over the years is absolutely terrifying to think about, and seeing him finish with these kinds of numbers two days after playing 36 minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers makes this even more amazing.

As far as the outcome of Wednesday’s game is concerned, the 115-109 victory over Los Angeles officially puts Philadelphia two games above .500 with an 8-6 record while continuing to build a strong case for being one of the top teams to beat in the Eastern Conference. Turns out, all of that trusting of the process is finally paying off for the Sixers and their fans, as this squad is becoming one of the most fun teams to follow in the NBA due to all of their young talent, especially when it comes to Embiid’s style of play.
