All of a sudden, Philadelphia Phillies fans can’t help but wonder about the possibility of Joe Girardi as manager since he won’t return to New York Yankees.

From John Farrell to Chip Hale, there have been numerous names thrown around over the last week or so when it comes to potential candidates to be the next Philadelphia Phillies for the 2018 season. However, with Joe Girardi all of a sudden becoming available, some Phillies fans are dreaming of the possibility of the former New York Yankees manager coming on board when looking at his success over the last 10 years, including this season.

On Thursday, the Yankees announced that Girardi would not be returning to the team, after the former manager just finished up the final season of his four-year contract, despite almost leading the team to another World Series berth. As baseball fans know, Girardi and New York seemed to be heading towards earning a trip to the World Series with a 3-2 lead at one point in the ALCS against the Houston Astros, but unfortunately those dreams were shattered when the team ended up losing Game 7.

Between winning a championship in 2009 to the Yankees exceeding all expectations this season after it seemed like they were going to be dealing with a year of rebuilding, fans outside of New York look at this decision by the organization as ridiculous when seeing what Girardi as been able to accomplish over the years. As for whether the Phillies would even have a chance to land a manager like Girardi when considering they have losing records in each of the last five seasons, anything is possible when it comes to sports.

Plus, based off some of these Twitter reactions, it seems like most Philadelphia fans would welcome Girardi with open arms. Take a look at some of the best responses below:

As exciting as Girardi’s availability is, the one thing to keep in mind is there are a ton of other openings around the league, including the Washington Nationals, who recently parted ways with Dusty Baker as well. Philadelphia certainly seems to be a team on the rise when looking at all of the progress made by the team following the All-Star break, but whether someone like Girardi would be willing to work with a younger team after recently falling just shy of reaching the World Series is a different story.

Numerous names have been thrown around  as of late when it comes to likely candidates to be the next manager for the Phillies, but hopefully the team will at least wait and see what Girardi’s plans are for 2018. Because of Girardi is in fact making himself available for a new managing gig, Philadelphia needs to bring him in as soon as possible.
