The Philadelphia Flyers will honor former owner Ed Snider on October 19 with a statue outside of the Wells Fargo Center.

The passing of former chairman of Comcast Spectacor and Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider in April 2016 was absolutely crushing for fans to see when looking at everything he did for the city over the years. But on a positive note, it looks like fans will forever be reminded of Snider when attending Flyers games thanks to a special statue that will be placed outside of the Wells Fargo Center.

According to the team site, the nine-foot bronze statue of Snider will be displayed for the first time during a ceremony that will take place before Philadelphia’s game against the Nashville Predators. What’s even more exciting is the ceremony will be open to the public, so any Flyers fans interested in taking part with the festivities are welcome to join.

"Comcast Spectacor will honor its late founder and former Chairman, Ed Snider, with a dedication and unveiling of a commemorative nine-foot-tall, bronze Ed Snider Statue outside of the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday, October 19 at 4:30 p.m. Comcast Spectacor President Dave Scott, Philadelphia Flyers President Paul Holmgren, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, and members of Ed Snider’s family will speak during the ceremony, which is free and open to the public."

Back in 2014, Snider was originally diagnosed with bladder cancer, and even though he seemed to have beat it at first, the cancer unfortunately would return before his passing in April 2016. And while there were numerous accomplishments throughout his career, the one thing that always stood out the most with Snider was how the Flyers became the first expansion team to win back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 1974 and 1975.

Emotions will certainly be running high on October 19 when the statue was revealed, but there’s no question this is the perfect way to honor Snider when looking at everything he’s done for the organization in his life. Not to mention, the Flyers will be looking for revenge against the Predators that night after letting the defending Western Conference champions to win the first meeting on Tuesday.
