Tyler Chatwood

My personal favorite sleeper for the Phillies to sign is Tyler Chatwood. When you look at his raw numbers it might be hard to understand. He finished 2017 with a terrible 8-15 record and an ERA of 4.69.

But when you take into account the Coors Field effect, and look at his home and away split stats his numbers tell a different story. Away from Coors Field Chatwood was 5-7 with just a 3.49. For those not wanting to do math his ERA dropped 1.20 points in games, not at Coors. This includes starts in other hitter-friendly parks like Chase Field and Wrigley Stadium.

With Chatwood being a relative unknown it might be possible to get him as just a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. Where he could turn heads and become a big piece for the Phillies 2018 season.

The Phillies could also just decide that no one in the free agent market it really worth spending on this offseason and hold tight looking at the next free agent class. Or maybe the Phillies think that trading for a controllable starter could be the best option to pair with Nola. There is no way to know for sure what Klentak is going to do. But if he does look at free agency, I hope he picks one of the guys on this list.
