With a roster full of potential the NBA sees the Sixers as a team to build the future of the league around. By giving the Sixers a Christmas Day game the NBA is saying that the team is ready to play with the “big boys”, and that the Process may have finally paid off.

The upcoming NBA season is going to be a telling one for the Sixers. The team finally has all of the pieces that several years of losing has brought them, and they look on the verge of competing. With Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Dario Saric, and Markelle Fultz, the young Sixers have quickly become one of the most exciting teams in the league.

Christmas day is a very special day for the NBA, as the top teams in the league go up against each other, usually drawing some of the highest television ratings of the entire year. In fact, last year’s Christmas Day showdown between the two former champions drew the highest rating in the league’s storied history.

Fans are used to seeing the Cavaliers, Warriors, and Celtics play during primetime, but it is becoming more common to see up and coming teams get these time slots. Playing in Madison Square Garden on such an important day is a great sign of what’s to come for the Sixers.

After years of struggle it is finally time for the Sixers to go all in and make a playoff run, and the NBA sees that. The Sixers vs Knicks may not be a playoff matchup we see in the near future, but it is a stepping stone for a team that looks to move up the ranks. For all of the fans that stuck with this team through the hard times, it feels right to see them get recognition.

Playing on Christmas day means so much more than just a prime time game, it means that all of the suffering was worth it. For Sixers fans, this is the beginning of something much bigger. It’s the culmination of years of losing coming together on one special day.

Christmas in New York will have a Philly feel to it., and the Sixers will try to play spoiler to Kristaps Porzingis once again.
