The Sixers had the latest initial reveal of their new home and away Nike jerseys.

The Sixers’ rebrand just got some added detail to it. Philadelphia has usually had a pretty good history of jerseys. The red, white, and blue theme never failed them (except in 1992). The team entered a fun era when Allen Iverson took charge of the franchise. A rebrand back to simplicity gave the team some memorable black and white jerseys.

The addition of gold also pushed the team’s new color scheme to new heights. It was such a drastic change from the classic colorways, but thanks to the grittiness of Allen Iverson, and the success the team saw, those black and white jerseys became instant classics.

The jerseys spanned into the mid-2000s, where the team decided to revert back to the red, white, and blues. Doing so in a bland way, Philadelphia may have had the least interesting jerseys in the NBA for a while.

It wasn’t until 2015 where the Sixers found themselves with the cleanest rebrand in the league, maybe keeping Milwaukee’s modernization as an exception. The Sixers stuck with red, white, and blue, this time adding stars and stripes on the side of the jerseys.

The re-introduction of “PHILA” across the chest allowed for nostalgia to creep into the hearts of the older generation of Sixers fans, while introducing a whole new brand of basketball to the younger generation. The addition of the red alternates were stunning, and really pushed the Sixers forward in terms of jersey rankings.

When it was announced that Nike would take over as the league’s new jersey makers, many wondered what the new Sixers jerseys may look like, considering the team just recently re-branded. Today, the team unveiled two new versions of their white and blue jerseys.

The addition to the red drop shadow elevates the jersey lettering. It’s a small, but evident change that works perfectly with these already brilliant looking jerseys. If the Sixers follow suit with the rest of the league, two more jerseys should be on the horizon.

Assuming the third is the red alternate jersey that Philadelphia fell in love with, could we be finally seeing an ode to the Iverson-era black jerseys?

Sure, it goes against the main color theme, but when it comes to selling jerseys, those would probably hover near the top of the league. Also, the Kings are rumored to bring back their sky blues, which falls away from purple and black. Everything is lined up for the Sixers to nail it with black jerseys.
