The Markelle Fultz-less Sixers couldn’t keep pace with the Spurs as they looked for their third straight win.

If you haven’t heard …

After watching Markelle Fultz leave the court last night with what looked like an ankle injury, Sixers fans attention shifted from Summer League play to the severity of Fultz injury. It looks like we have seen the last of Fultz until the pre-season but there are still games to be played with other Sixers looking to make the roster.

Check out George Kondoleon’s piece for a closerlook on the Fultz injury.

The 76ers came in to Sunday’s game riding a two game win streak after already defeating the Spurs a couple of nights ago and the Warriors last night. But the 76ers defense didn’t have an answer for Spurs guard Bryn Forbes. The second year guard went off tonight scoring 35, the most points scored in the Summer League this year. In a game that looks closer on paper, the Sixers lost 101-95.

Philadelphia was just off tonight, shooting only 45.8% from the field while allowing the Spurs to shoot 51.6%. With Fultz out, no one stepped up on the offensive end with the extra shots available. Aaron Harrison led the Sixers tonight in points with just 14 and Alex Poythress, who has had a steady Summer League, led the team in rebounds with 6. There looked like an effort was made to get and let Furkan Korkmaz shoot the ball, the Turkish teenager went 5 of 13 tonight with 12 points scored.

More from Philadelphia 76ers

Its been interesting that Melo Trimble, the undrafted rookie guard from Maryland, hasn’t seen much action. Your classic steady College guard, Trimble cemented his spot as one of the most decorated players in Maryland basketball history.

In his only appearance in the Summer League, Trimble has played a total of 10 minutes in one game and managed to score just three points. Through out his career in Maryland, Trimble was once tabbed as an early 2nd round pick. Most Sixers fans were excited to see if Trimble could make a name for himself this Summer League but just hasn’t had the opportunity.

Next: Fultz reassures Sixers fans

It looked like the was a little wind let out of the teams sails after watching the #1 overall pick leave the court last night. In what was a disappointing effort in a game Philadelphia was never really in and couldn’t stop the Spurs Bryn Forbes all night. As the Sixers draw close to ending the Summer League it will be interesting how they end things off without Fultz. A quick turnaround as the Sixers next match up is against Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics Tuesday at 6:30pm ET.
