With Markelle Fultz watching tonight’s game from the bench, the Philadelphia 76ers were able to get their first win of the summer.

The Philadelphia 76ers came into tonight’s game  0-2 in Summer League play and despite leaving the number overall pick on the bench were able to beat the San Antonio Spurs. Leaning heavily on rookies Jonah Bolden and Isaiah Miles the Sixers were able to take control of the game in the 4th quarter and secure a 94-86 victory.

Tonight marked Markelle Fultz first opportunity to watch the Sixers compete from the bench. As Sixers management will be extra cautious with Fultz as the most important thing now will be making sure he remains healthy.

With oft-injured Joel Embiid having troubles staying on the court and what happened with Ben Simmons last year it was no surprise when Fultz didn’t come into the game tonight. This was a great chance for Fultz to watch his teammates and learn from the bench.

More from Philadelphia 76ers

After a sloppy first half marred with turnovers from both teams, the Sixers were able to take a hold of the game for the win. Most eyes were on Furkan Korkmaz again tonight as Fultz was resting. Korkmaz has a quiet night last night only registering 3 points in 16 minutes but with more of an opportunity tonight Korkmaz was able to improve on his numbers. Scoring 10 points and also grabbing 4 rebounds, along with 3 assists and 3 steals.

The Spurs were led by Bryn Forbes, a 2nd-year guard with 21 points tonight, but what was most impressive was the way Isaiah Miles played tonight. Isaiah was the Sixers leading scorer, dropping 18 points, 7 rebounds and was a +27 while on the court for just 21 minutes. Miles, a 2016 graduate of St. Joseph’s managed to get a Summer League invite after a season overseas. He played in France last year, averaging 12.2 points for JDA Dijon Basket and recently signed a contract to play for Usak in Turkey. Miles has an out in his contract if, for instance, the Sixers want to take him to training camp.

At 1-2 in Summer League action, the Sixers next game will come on Saturday versus the NBA Champions, Golden State. One would assume Fultz will be back on the court Saturday which should make an interesting game versus the NBA’s current dynasty.
