4.) Hector Neris – Relief Pitcher.
A year ago, Hector Neris looked like the closer of the future for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 2017, the 28-year-old Dominican has showed signs of his old self, but like the rest of the Phillies pitching staff has struggled at times. In 28.1 innings pitched, Neris has a 3.49 ERA, a 2-2 record, and six saves. His 32 strikeouts are a nice sight to see, while his 27 hits and four homeruns allowed are not. Neris mixes his pitches nicely, while being able to throw gas when needed. This season, Neris is earning $557,500 while next season his contract is under the team’s control.

Being under 30 years old, Neris still has a lot of time to offer in the MLB. He can definitely be a hard-throwing option for a contending team this fall, while also leaving for a better chance at postseason play. If Neris continues to improve throughout June and early July, then I see no reason why General Manager Matt Klentak will keep him for next season. Several teams in both leagues will look to stock up on pitchers for the long-haul of the regular season and playoffs, and Neris easily should be a guy that gets considered.
