2.) Howie Kendrick – Utility.
Another off-season acquisition, Kendrick has been a lone bright spot in the Phillies inconsistent offense. Despite only playing in 27 games so far this season, the 33-year-old has hit .321 with a .462 slugging percentage. Kendrick, who is making over $9 million dollars this season with Philadelphia, could be a valuable extra bat for a contender, especially in the American League. Kendrick can still play second-base if needed, but mainly sees time as a corner outfielder under Mackanin. When the Phillies have played inter league series, Kendrick has served as a DH which still keeps his consistent bat in the line-up.

One team that seems to be very high on the board for Kendrick’s services is the New York Yankees. New York, who currently leads the AL East, could use another veteran in the line-up, especially for a postseason push. Having Howie in Philadelphia longer would be great, but if the team is struggling, there is no reason to keep him in the pinstripes at CBP. At 33, he can still provide both on and off the field, and would be an added leader in the clubhouse. With Cesar Hernandez and Scott Kingery being the future at second base, Kendrick’s services could very well be on the move as we near July.
