La Salle Explorers: Marquette’s Traci Carter transfers in
By Pete Sawan
After spending the last two seasons with the Marquette Golden Eagles, guard Traci Carter will transfer to the La Salle Explorers.
La Salle’s head coach Dr. John Giannini announced today that Marquette’s Traci Carter has transferred to La Salle. However, he will spend the upcoming season on the bench due to the NCAA’s rules on transferring. Luckily, Carter will have two more years of eligibility after this season.
This addition came to the utmost joy of Coach Giannini. He sees Traci Carter as a perfect fit for his team in the upcoming years.
"“He brings leadership and toughness that is necessary to succeed in today’s college basketball world, where so many teams are highly invested and have good players.”"
Once Carter serves his year on the bench, Giannini believes his skillset fits exactly what the La Salle Explorers need. Interestingly enough, Carter did well during his time with Marquette. He averaged 4.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Those are solid numbers, to say the least. Carter’s ability to distribute the ball and pick the opposition’s pockets made he a highly coveted prospect for Giannini.
Traci Carter came into his collegiate career as a highly touted prospect. ESPN ranked him as a four-star recruit. In addition, he placed among the 30 best point guards of the 2015 recruiting class. He’s received tons of praise, to say the least.
Now, Traci Carter has some serious ties to the city of Philadelphia. As a Philly native, local “Big Five” schools have had their eyes on him. Coach Giannini made note of his familiarity with Carter’s game as a whole. Giannini stated that he has “watched and recruited Traci since his sophomore year in high school” at Life Center Academy in Burlington, NJ.

So, as we look ahead to the upcoming NCAA season, Traci Carter may not make an immediate impact. Since he’s sitting out, we won’t him in gold and blue anytime soon. As a true junior, Carter’s presence may be felt off the court. But, as Coach Giannini put it, “With [Carter’s] work ethic, he should keep improving and be an outstanding player in the A-10”. The future does look bright for the La Salle Explorers.
