On Friday night, surprising news dropped that the Kansas City Chiefs released former Philadelphia Eagles receiver, Jeremy Maclin.

Maclin has been a solid NFL receiver during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs but now he will be on to his third organization (barring a shock return to the Eagles). It’s odd that the Chiefs cut Jeremy Maclin considering that their next best receiver on the roster is second-year target Tyreek Hill but such is life in the NFL.

Maclin was slated to make 11 million dollars this year and that was too much for the Chiefs to justify paying. While Maclin had an injury riddled 2016 only playing 12 games and scoring 2 touchdowns, he’s still on the right side of 30. Maclin also posted consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2014 and 2015. This is more than enough for an NFL team to justify taking a flier on Maclin ahead of this season.

Receiver needy teams will be sure to give Maclin’s agents a call as they very well should ahead of training camp. Releasing Maclin may have earned the Chiefs 10 million dollars in cap space but it also earned other teams around the NFL a valuable shot at an above average playmaker. Maclin may never have another year like 2014 but he doesn’t have to in order to be useful for teams around the league.

Let’s take a look at some possible fits for Maclin:
