Damontae Kazee, San Diego State

Damontae Kazee is a bit undersized when it comes to cornerbacks. He is 5’10”, 184 pounds, with 30 7/8 inch arms, and 8 5/8 inch hands. He is an inch shorter but with longer arms and bigger hands than Sutton. He runs the forty yard dash in 4.54 seconds.

Kazee will go in the fourth-sixth round of this years NFL draft. Realistically he is a fifth rounder with a some serious upside. He is a ballhawk and is another player that could come in and compete for reps from day one. The lack of depth at corner helps his cause, but he is a talented player and should be able to find his way onto the field. As with Sutton, he will fill a need and won’t cost an early pick in the draft.

Here are Kazee’s strengths per NFL.com:

"Good bounce in his feet for short area movement. Plays with a quick transition forward from his pedal when reacting to the route. Looks for most efficient route to the ball to disrupt the catch. Very good route awareness from zone. Can split the high-low combinations and anticipates the chosen route early. Highly instinctive with a taste for turnovers. Wants to make a play on every ball thrown his way. Posted 43 passes defensed over the last three years including 16 interceptions during that time. Active and downhill in his run support."

Active in run support, and a ballhawk? What more can you ask for. If he’s available when the Eagles are on the clock in the late fourth or fifth round the Philadelphia Eagles should add him to the cornerback room, I’m sure Jim Schwartz and Cory Undlin would be thrilled to have him on the team.

The biggest knock on Kazee is his size. While size is important when matching up against bigger receivers, I wouldn’t put too much thought into it. The game tape and stats don’t lie, the kid can play.

It has been reported that the Philadelphia Eagles have scheduled a visit with the corner from San Diego State, per Tony Pauline. This is something worth noting as we inch closer to the draft.
