As I Sit with Temple Owls’ redshirt junior defensive lineman Hez Trahan, I was lucky to get a couple questions answered from my old Roman Catholic classmate and friend.

For as long as I have known Hez Trahan, he has not only been an amazing friend, but also an outstanding football player. In high school, I saw him play not only both sides of the football but also put his body through serious punishment. The next day? He was in the weight room before classes working out.

With expectations low for you guys by most who follow this Temple Owls team, including myself, how is the team feeding off of it?

People doubting us is just making us work harder to give you guys a great season. The coaches are aware of the low expectations so they are also pushing us to know work harder so that we can have a great season. I personally do not let the negative/low expectations affect me, all I can do is put all I have on the field and know that God will handle the rest. As a team collectively we are all dedicated to making this a great season.

More from Big Five

This is a big year for you as a player. You’re heading into your Red Shirt Junior year, what have you done to solidify yourself as the new leader of this Temple Owls defense who will be missing Hasson Reddick?

I have been working hard on and off the field. Even changing my diet to ensure my body would be in best shape. I have been using every opportunity in practice to showcase my talents and putting my all into every play. I hope to really show off my defensive leadership at the spring game and let that set the tone for the rest of the season.

Last question. If you had one word to describe this Temple Owls team for the 2017-2018 season, what would it be?

Determined. Hungry.

As we see, this Temple Owls team is not going down without a fight. After hearing what Hez has told me if I’m Geoff Collins, I’m very happy to hear that my players are doing everything they can to become the best athlete they can possibly be. It is the little things that matter like changing your diet or just the extra reps at the end of practice.

Hez Trahan is viewed as a sleeper to have a breakout season, but do not be surprised if he explodes. He thrives off of the negativity that surrounds him. With the Owls set to have many new faces on both sides of the ball, expect Trahan to rise as a key member of the defensive line.
