Number 21: Jerad Eickhoff – Pitcher, Philadelphia Phillies

Consistency isn’t sexy. That’s why despite Eickhoff having an argument for being the best pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies last season he finds himself in the 20’s on this list rather than being in the teens where he belongs. Eickhoff didn’t do anything to wow anyone last year but he also limited his mistakes which lead to him racking up a 3.65 ERA while also coming close to pitching 200 innings. While he started the season off on the wrong foot once Eickhoff learned to control his curveball he was off and running for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Eickhoff may not have the highest ceiling of Phillies pitchers but thanks to injury concerns, he likely has the highest floor  thanks to injury concerns. The fact that Aaron Nola is ranked higher than him on this list doesn’t make sense to me because Nola has to prove that he’s healthy but that’s how the votes fell. If Eickhoff is able to go out and repeat his performances from last year, however, expect him to be higher in our next installment of the Philadelphia sports top 25 athletes.
