Number 13: Jakub Voracek – Winger, Philadelphia Flyers

Voracek is one of the fan favorites here in Philadelphia, I’m happy to see him ranked in the top 15. Jake came to Philly in the (in)famous trade that sent Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets for himself, a 2011 first round pick (Sean Couturier), and a 2011 third round pick (Nick Cousins). He was welcomed with open arms.

Jake is a super-fast skater. He plays the game with great vision and isn’t afraid of putting the puck on net. For the past few years he has been near the top of the team in scoring. For what it’s worth, in his lone all-star game appearance he managed to tie Mario Lemieux’s point record at six.

In addition to being a good offensive player for this team, Jake Voracek is an overall good guy. A month or so ago Wayne Simmonds fired a shot on net that Voracek deflected past the goaltender for the goal. Good, right? Wrong, kinda. Hats poured onto the ice as everyone in the audience thought that was Simmonds’ third goal of the night. Turns out it was just a regular goal for Jake. After the game, Voracek said he was going to donate roughly 3000 hats to a Children’s Hospital for the hats that were thrown onto the ice for the hat trick that never happened.

Being ranked 13 is accurate for my second favorite ginger on the Flyers. He isn’t the best player on the team, but he is one of the best Philly has to offer. He wears Orange and Black proud and leaves it all on the ice, that’s all you can ask for in this city.
