Not one skater on the Philadelphia Flyers is as hot as Jordan Weal right now. Fact.

Jordan Weal has scored three goals in the past five games, four if you include his shootout goal against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. He has four points over the past five games, highlighted by a two point effort against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins. Weal’s coming out party couldn’t have come at a better time for the Philadelphia Flyers, part of winning a Stanley Cup is getting hot at the right time. If the Flyers can sneak into the playoffs they will be red hot when they take on the one seed Washington Capitals.

This brings the question, Will the Flyers even make the playoffs? It’s a long shot for sure. If they win the remaining six games they will have a 14% chance of making it.

Playoffs or not, it’s great to see Jordan Weal emerging as a legitimate scoring threat, an area the Fly Guys have been lacking in for some time now. Jordan Weal has been a lightning rod for the Philadelphia Flyers in his limited time in the NHL. He hustles on every shift and has eight points over eighteen games. He’s also a smart player, only serving six minutes in the penalty box. Weal’s performance in limited games should make him a lock as a top six forward next season.

More from Philadelphia Flyers

Jordan Weal came to the Philadelphia Flyers by in the trade that sent Luke Schenn and Vincent Lecavalier to the Los Angeles Kings. This is panning out to be one of the better trades that Ron Hextall has made. It sets the Flyers up with a solid, young forward while dumping two players who had no chance of being around in the next three years. I was a fan of having both Schenn brothers in Philly, I really was. Unfortunately Luke wouldn’t fit in with Travis Sanheim, Sam Morin, and Ivan Provorov. Combine that with Lecavalier’s age and it’s clear to see that Hextall won that trade.

I know we’re only 22 games into Weal’s professional career, but he appears to be a pivotal piece of this team moving forward. He meshes with the team and is playing at the highest level when the team needs it the most. That speaks volumes. Even if the Flyers don’t make the playoffs, they have another great, young piece to build with. A Weal-ly good one at that.
