Philadelphia Eagles Draft: Post-Combine Seven Round Mock
Round 6: Gabe Marks, WR, Washington State
And add another young wideout into the mix. Just to keep things interesting, you know?
Marks was a high volume product of Washington State who set the career receptions record for the Pac-12 in his senior year. He gets into his routes with intentionality and nuance, has solid suddenness in and out of his breaks, and catches almost everything around him. The quickness shows up on tape but didn’t register at all at the Combine—only his short shuttle reached league average.
But Marks’ performance at the Combine reminds us that it isn’t all about the numbers. Marks’ natural hands-catching and fluid body control through the gauntlet/his routes reflected that of his tape and really stood out amongst the crowd in Indy. He was never going to come in and blow away the competition physically. But he’s doggone talented at catching the football, and he showed that this week.
Marks was also an East/West Shrine Game participant, where he was asked to play more out of the slot and less on the boundary, as he typically did with Washington State. That’s likely where he’ll have to play in the NFL, as well. His 5’11, 189 lb frame just won’t cut it on the outside. During the Shrine Game, he hardly looked comfortable running routes from a close alignment, though his blocking was adequate.
If he’s going to find a spot on an NFL roster, he’ll need to find a way to contribute on special teams. But I’ll take the risk on his hands and production any day of the week.
