Philadelphia Eagles Draft: Post-Combine Seven Round Mock
Round 5: Jalen Robinette, WR, Air Force
First wideout in Round 5? Crazy, huh?
Almost every free agent and trade-available wideout has been linked to the Philadelphia Eagles. Numerous reports have insisted that Roseman intends to add to his receiving core through the draft second, and other means first. If the Philadelphia Eagles enter April without at least one of Brandin Cooks, Terrelle Pryor, Kenny Britt, DeSean Jackson, Torrey Smith, and Kenny Stills, then they’ve had a bad month.
As such, the search in the draft should be for developmental projects instead of instant contributors. Jalen Robinette, the deep threat from Air Force, fits that mold nicely.
At 6’3 with 32 3/8″ arms and 10 7/8″ hands (measure your hand, thumb to pinky, on a ruler, right now), he has incredible size on the scale and a huge catch radius on the tape. I like his ability to get deep quick and catch in traffic. His agility drills were a huge disappointment, and he won’t make anyone miss in space, but he will win down the field, and the Eagles need that. Badly.
At the Air Force Academy, Robinette was rarely utilized to the height of his skill set. Their triple-option attack necessitated Robinette to block–and block well–and I always appreciate a wideout who can lay the wood on a guy. Despite his scant usage, however, Robinette led college football 27.4 yards per catch over 35 receptions.
Analysis? That’s good.
With a free-agent addition on one side of the field and WR Nelson Agholor/Robinette on the other, WR Jordan Matthews can spend more time in the slot. Re-evaluating contract situations becomes much easier only after the draft, free agency, and the 2018 season.
