The Sixers will sign Chasson Randle to a three-year, partially guaranteed deal.

Chasson Randle proved enough in his two 10-day contract stints to the Sixers to keep him around a little longer. According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the Sixers will be signing the rookie guard to a three-year partially guaranteed contract.

Randle is a quick, small guard that has seemed to mold nicely with Philadelphia. He has played a total of just 29 minutes over four games, but is a nice end of the bench player to have on the roster.

Randle earned something similar to what has been famously called the “Hinkie Special”, a deal the former Sixers GM would use when signing under the radar players. His ability to control the ball in half-court sets make him a valuable third guard off the bench, but the D-League could be in his future.

The new CBA will allow for team to use two extra roster spots for two-way contracts with their D-League affiliates, according to Keith P. Smith and Jared Weiss. This will allow players of Randle’s talent level to be called up and sent down from the D-League without taking up a aluable roster spot.

There’s no telling yet if Randle’s contract will be honored under that system, but when looking at his current playing time and the potential additions of more talented guards, it’s safe to assume. This is a huge opportunity for Randle, as the team is down to just three point guards including himself.

The Sixers are currently steam rolling with an outside chance at the playoffs, but if they start to falter Randle could see increased playing time. Spanish signee Sergio Rodriguez has given mixed results, probably not the performance to earn him another contract with the up-and-coming Sixers, but enough to earn him a spot elsewhere.

With Rodriguez probably out of the picture for next season, Philadelphia may want to assess Randle more if the team starts to regress the rest of the season. The return of Ben Simmons will also play a factor, since he is titled as the team’s primary ball-handler of the future.

Either way, Chasson Randle will see another day in Sixer blue. As a 10-day contract-level rookie, that’s as good as it gets. Randle secured some money, but his work to become a solidified NBA player is still ways away.
