Travis Konecny was an offensive, playmaking beast last year for Ottawa and Sarnia in juniors. Konecny was a man among boys in juniors. If plays like he did in juniors during training camp and the preseason, we could see Konecny up with the big club this year.

The only thing that would stop Konecny from playing with the Philadelphia Flyers is GM Ron Hextall. Hextall preaches patience with young players and with Konecny having another year of junior eligibility left, Hextall may keep him in juniors for another year.

In juniors, Konecny proved that he is on a whole other level than the competition there. A problem is that the Flyers would likely have to move someone or cut someone to make a roster spot for Konecny. It is either keep him up or he goes back to juniors, unfortunately he can not got to the minors.

He is fast, skilled, and at least at the junior level consistent. The kid is something special and to take his game to the next level he needs to play in the NHL next year not juniors. He can not be worse than Chris VandeVelde and the Philadelphia Flyers need scoring badly.

With the World Cup of Hockey taking place this year, Konecny will see more ice during this year’s training camp. More ice-time means a better chance to show the organization what you’re made of and hopefully Konecny can capitalize on that.

At the end of the day however, Konecny will most likely stay in juniors for one more year. It will not be detrimental but in the NHL he has the chance to really expand his game.
