Philadelphia Union: Are the Union Playoff bound?

HOME vs Sporting KC, 7 p.m. August 27th

The Philadelphia Union have quickly closed the gap between themselves and first place. Earning nine points in their last three games, the Philadelphia Union are just one point out of first.

The Philadelphia Union will take on a Sporting KC, their third game in seven days. The matchup is the first and only regular season match, between the two teams The last time they faced off, was in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final. The Union struck first that game, Sebastian Le Toux scoring 23 minutes in. Sporting would later tie it in the 65th minute. The game would ultimately be decided by Penalty Kicks, Sporting KC would edge out the Union 7-6 winning the Cup.

Fast forward now 11 months to August 27th and this one will have almost an identical feel to last years match. Both teams are in the playoff race, the Union looking to take the first seed, Sporting KC looking to stay above the red line and earn that 6th and final spot. Expect Talen Energy Stadium to be rocking.

After a slow start to the season, Sporting KC finally seems to have found their groove. Striker Dom Dwyer is in top form and on a goal-scoring tear, closing in on the top goal scoring spot, looking to earn the Golden Boot.

Game Expectation’s

With so much to play for, this game will be an important one for both teams. Sporting has struggled on the road, while the Philadelphia Union have been in top form at home. Even on tired legs, the Union edge out a win 2-1, also breaking the previous record of 11 wins in the season.
