The Essential Philadelphia Union Dream Transfer Shortlist
Soni Mustivar – CDM – Sporting Kansas City
We’ve come to our first MLS target of many more.
Looking for an impact box-to-box midfielder that can do it all? Well, look no further than SKC’s 26-year-old midfielder Soni Mustivar. He has been an impact player for SKC but plays an unheralded role next to Benny Feilhaber. Mustivar also recently became a full international for Hati during Copa America. Mustivar excels in the air and is a great tackler. Those are important as hee needs to make up for his lack of size. Mustivar is 5’7″ and 149 lbs. which is on the smaller side for a central midfielder.
The easiest way to judge Mustivar’s impact is not by his stats but how SKC perform without him because he has an impact that isn’t always felt in the box score. Without Mustivar SKC is 2-9-4 and for a team that’s normally in contention, that’s a huge drop from their standard. Mustivar offers a great shield for the back line in the role that Brian Carroll currently plays.
The difference is that Mustivar offers more versatility and can get forward when needed in the way that Maurice Edu does when at his best. Mustivar is a player that could easily slot in for the Philadelphia Union and make a huge impact on both the offense and defense. With him in the midfield, the Union could play a less defensive partner such as Tranquillo Barnetta next to him because of how much ground Mustivar can cover.
