Hicham Faik – Central Midfielder – Roda JC Kerkrade

Perhaps one of my favorite players on this list, 24-year-old Moroccan / Dutch midfielder Hicham Faik falls perfectly into line with what the Union need from a central defensive midfielder. Faik is lethal from long distance registering a number of highlight worthy strikes from outside the box as well as from short range free kicks. He’s a workhorse in both facets of his game, has excellent ball control on the ground and in the air and can work the ball precisely through the middle or across the length of the field with ease. He also averages about 1.7 tackles and interceptions per game that bring about numerous counter attacking chances for his team.

A versatile athlete who’s bounced around a bit in his short career, Faik is on his way out of Roda when his contract expires today which means he would be a free transfer that carries low risk and can be plugged in to challenge for starting minutes immediately. While his value is steadily rising, not many high profile squads have reached out in any serious talks with him leaving Philadelphia in an excellent spot to snatch some relatively young talent who is still getting better every day.

What would make Hicham Faik such a promising signing is the fact that he has a fantastic attitude about playing time and strong discipline both on and off the field. That is something Earnie Stewart finds essential in creating a positive and successful team environment. A young man with a clear head, a polished game, and a reasonable price tag sounds like a home run for Jim Curtin’s surging team.
