Patrick Mullins – Forward – New York City FC

Patrick Mullins is someone who has always been underappreciated by his club because of their world-class attacking options. Mullins joined NYCFC during the 2014 expansion draft from the New England Revolution and scored four goals while collecting an assist for them that season. This season, Mullins has only appeared in five games for NYCFC with no goals scored. With NYCFC selling Kwadwo Poku to Miami FC it’s clear that they’re okay with unloading their depth options if the price is right.

Mullins would offer quality depth for the Philadelphia Union behind CJ Sapong which is a dire need for the team as the current forward situation shows. He hasn’t cracked the 18 man matchday squad in NYCFC’s past two games showing just how out of favor he is. Mullins is a striker that is good in the air and could add another set piece threat next to Chris Pontius. He doesn’t offer much defensively but as a depth option that wouldn’t hold him back much.

If the Philadelphia Union would like a low-cost striker so that they can make other squad additions Mullins would be a good option because it shouldn’t take much to snatch him from NYCFC. With him only being 24, the Union could also develop him and see what happens. In the transfer market, there are worse things that could happen.

The transfer window opens on July fifth and the world will be watching. No one knows exactly what the Philadelphia Union will do but it will be important that they grab an impact player to strengthen their grasp on the Eastern Conference.
