Philadelphia 76ers: 2016 NBA Draft Grades And Analysis
Overall Draft Grade: A
The Philadelphia 76ers had an almost perfect draft. They started the night drafting their cornerstone player in Ben Simmons. They then selected a promising wing defender in Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. Then used a draft-and-stash on a very young and very promising shooter. They also avoiding dumping valuable assets in return for assets that were not of equal return.
The team didn’t move Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor yet, but that’s not to say the team is still looking for potential trade suitors that’ll bring back a higher return than the 3rd pick or Ricky Rubio. The team failed to draft a point guard, which means they will be active players in combing the thin free agent market that will open up next month.
Bryan Colangelo didn’t “sell the farm” for one player, nor did he hastily trade in a win-now scenario. Colangelo’s patience and his team’s diligence in the draft will surely pay-off in the long-term. The short-term moves that many expected hasn’t happened yet, and it seems like this draft strategy would co-align with much of what Sam Hinkie would do to continue the rebuilding process.

The influx of young talent is hard to ignore, and there should be an expectation of some marginal improvement from last year’s team. The new era of talent the Philadelphia 76ers hold are hoping to shine some light on what has been a debated rebuild process.
