Philadelphia Phillies: Looking Back at Draft Picks Since 2000
By Chuck Booth
Following a shakeup to the scouting department for the Philadelphia Phillies the draft process got back on track in 2013 with the selection of J.P. Crawford.
Crawford was selected with the 16th pick in the 2013 draft out of Lakewood High School in California and he has quickly ascended prospect rankings to be a top 10 prospect in all of baseball as well as the Philadelphia Phillies number one prospect overall.
Currently at AAA, Crawford is the Philadelphia Phillies shortstop of the future (as soon as next year) once he gets his swing together. His batting eye is there and his defense is coming along well but he still has a long way to go with a bat in his hands.
Things will click for Crawford in AAA once he gets more reps but this is the first true struggle that he has faced as a prospect so it will be interesting to see how he bounces back. If Crawford responds well to this it could mean a great deal towards the development of a major league mentality putting him one step closer to joining the Phillies.
Crawford has the ability to be a savior for the Philadelphia Phillies’ offense in the future. We just need to give him some time.
